Upgrading from v6 or v7 to v8 on Windows
This page covers the upgrade of Syncplify Server! v6 or v7 to v8 on Windows. The video at the end demonstrates each step of this straightforward procedure.
DANGER
The procedure below applies only to standalone servers. If you run a Syncplify Server! v6 or v7 HA cluster, follow Upgrading a v6 or v7 HA cluster to v8 instead.
Prerequisites
Before beginning the upgrade:
- have a working Syncplify Server! v6 or v7 installation
- have a valid license with an active maintenance and support plan (as a general rule, an active plan is required for all upgrades)
- download the most recent version of the software from syncplify.com/download
- close any application that might be accessing the server
Upgrade process
The upgrade from v6 or v7 to v8 is designed to be seamless and automatic:
- Run the installer: double click the v8 installer executable.
- Grant privileges: accept the Windows User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
- Accept the license: review and accept the software license agreement.
- Wait for completion: the installer handles every migration task automatically.
Post upgrade verification
After the installation completes:
- refresh your browser (F5) to load the new interface
- verify that your virtual sites work correctly
- confirm that your license information came across
- sign in to the Admin UI of each virtual site and double check every setting
Important notes
- All existing configurations, virtual sites and license information are preserved during the upgrade.
- No manual migration step is required.
- The upgrade typically completes within a few minutes.
- Your server is briefly unavailable during the installation.
- In the rare case where the v6 or v7 database cannot be exported, the upgrade stops with an error; Upgrading from v6 or v7 to v8 when everything else fails covers that case.
