Wasabi
Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage is an S3 compatible object storage sold at a flat price per terabyte, with no egress or API request fees.
Step 1: in the Wasabi console
- Create a bucket. Open Buckets, choose Create Bucket, pick a name and a region. Note the region: the endpoint depends on it.
- Create a user and a policy, rather than using the root account's keys. Under Policies, create a policy limited to your bucket; under Users, create a user with Programmatic (create API key) access and attach the policy.
- Download the keys. The access key and its secret are shown once, when the user is created.
That is it for the Wasabi side. Now to the SFTP.cloud side.
Step 2: in your SFTP.cloud Storage Connector
Best performance
Wasabi has no compute of its own. Place the Storage Connector on a cloud or in a data center close to the Wasabi region you chose, where the uplink is best.
The first thing to do is to add a new Virtual File System. For Wasabi in particular there are a few small but important details:
- Type:
S3(as for any other S3 compatible object store) - Region: the bucket's region, for example
us-east-1oreu-central-1 - Endpoint: the regional service URL,
https://s3.<region>.wasabisys.com, for examplehttps://s3.eu-central-1.wasabisys.com. Wasabi lists every region's URL in its service URLs page. - Use path style addressing: off. Wasabi serves every bucket as its own host name.
WARNING
Do not forget to press the Save button next to the Access secret after typing it in, or it will not be saved and nothing will work.
When you save, the Connector tests the storage right away. If it cannot reach it, the form stays open and says why.
Then, still in the Storage Connector UI, go to the Users page and give your users the desired access to the new VFS.
Finally
Test it. Connect through your SFTP.cloud WebClient, create a folder, upload some files, then check in the Wasabi console that they landed in the bucket.
