What is LLTS (Limited Long-Term Support)?
When we retire a software version, version weis typically keep providing a certain level of support forretired, it for a certain period of time, to make sure the transition to the new version that replaced it is as smooth as possible.
This period of extended support is calledenters LLTS, or Limited Long-Term Support. And,This asis thea termtransitional itselfstatus suggests, designed it'sto give existing users time to upgrade, not a reason to stay on an older version indefinitely.
LLTS is limited in terms of time, scope, and priority.
So, how is this LLTS different from the level of support the current version receives? In summary, when a certain software version under LLTS:
Specifically:
incoming supportSupport requests for LLTS versions are handled after thosethat came infor the currentversionversion.onlyNosuggestions, featurerecommendations, development occurs. Bug fixes are rare exceptions, reserved for critical issues with no viable workaround, and(whenarepossible)neverworkaroundsguaranteed.- LLTS has a firm termination date. After that date, no support of any kind is provided.
The current version receives active development, priority support, and all security and quality improvements. LLTS versions do not.
If you are provided, running noa developmentproduct isversion performed, under notLLTS, evenupgrading to fix bugs (only the current version is under active development)
It is, therefore, always extremely important to keep your software up to date, move, and alwaysthe usesooner the most recent (current, under active development) version of the software.better.
